Blog 9 Evaluation of blog experience

Hi everyone!

I hope everybody is fine. Today is time to say goodbye, but before then I will tell my experience with blogging.

In general I liked doing this, I had never done it before. it is an instance to gain confidence in writing in english and it is very good to be ably to do it with topics that we know, and to things that we like, in addition it is a instance for interact with our classmates and teacher, and know them, even a little bit.

I think that writing blogs, I have improved my ability of write in english, I have learned new words, and a little of “think in english”. Before it was difficult for me and it took me a long time to write, but now it is easier and more entertaining for me.

I could not say something for the future but I think that the blogs are a good method, more in online classes, and they should always apply.

Personally, I would have liked to write about pets, superpowers, food… hmm, that’s what I can think by now.

Well that’s it, before I say goodbye I’d like to thank the teacher for making the classes more enjoyable in spite of the current context. Although the classes were very early, he always had a smile and a motivating spirit.

Classmates, I hope that someday we can share other classes together, it was a pleasure to meet you even a little bit and share stories.

Thanks for reading, take care of yourselves please and goodbye.

Blog 8: A subject you enjoyed studying this semester

Hi everyone!

I hope everybody is fine. Today I’m going to talk about my favorite subject this term.

This semester have been different and confussing for everyone in the university, personally I don't had a very good experience with my subjects by the teachers but the subject that I liked the most this semester was “processes and prototypes I”. As the name implies, this is about production processes and prototypes, and it teaches us that as design students, we should be more concerned with the process than with the end result. Within what we could see, we saw concepts related to production and their relationship between them  such as tools, raw materials, products, among others.

We also saw the traceability of objects, the Rube Goldberg machine concept and finally the mathematical model of Rosalind Krauss.

Personally I like this subject because it opened my eyes to what's behind the design and I believe that it is very interesting and important for design students. In my class, we did differents works such as the production processes of a recipe, the traceability of an object, we even did a Rube Goldberg machine with all classmates through video editing. And this is what I liked the most about the subject but I did not enjoy it as much as I wanted due to the online method.

Example of Rube Golberg machine:

This is all for today, see you next blog.

Blog 7: A Career-Related Website OR an Expert in Your Field

Hi everyone!

I hope everybody is fine. Today I decided to talk about an expert in my field that I met for a university job the last year,

Marian Bantjes is a designer, typographer, writer and illustrator. She works internationally from her base on a small island off the west coast of Canada, near Vancouver. She is a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI), and regularly speaks about her work and thoughts at conferences and events worldwide. She doesn't have formal design studies but her career spans 3 stages: she worked as a book typesetter from 1984–1994, she co-founded and ran a graphic design studio, Digitopolis, from 1994–2003 and since 2003 she has worked on her own as a designer/artist/letterer.

She is known for her detailed and precise vector art, her obsessive hand work, her patterning and ornament. Also for resorting to unusual techniques with common materials such as making frames with noodles or writing with sugar. Among other techniques that can be taken as references.

With her work, Bantjes seeks to surprise, to make people imagine things. Her purpose is to reach as many people as possible with her work, to make them observe it and get something out of it. She wants people to feel special and unique, this is the reason why I like her. I hope that someday I can achieve this. Apart, I admire her creativity and perseverance.

150 Valentine cards that she hand-made, each different from the other, and then distributed them to her mailing list

I see you on the next blog.
